Increased Expressions of IL-22 and Th22 cells in the coxsackievirus B3-Induced mice acute viral myocarditis

Qing Kong, Weifeng Wu, Fan Yang, Yanli Liu, Yimin Xue, Mengsha Gao, Wenyin Lai, Xiaofen Pan, Yuluan Yan, Yu Pang, Yuanhua Deng Virology Journal 2012, 9:232 (11 October 2012)

Abstract | Full text | PDF | PubMed |  Editor’s summary

Th22 cells are a newly discovered class of regulatory T cell that secretes the cytokine IL-22. Qing et al show that Th22 cells are upregulated during viral myocarditis in mice and that blocking IL-22 exacerbated disease. This suggests that Th22 cells / IL-22 may be protective against viral myocarditis and could be developed as a novel therapeutic.
