Type-specific L1 DNA determined by multiplex qPCR correlates with typing determined
by degenerative PCR using DNA from nonsmoker/nondrinker clinical samples. DNA was extracted from paraffin-embedded tissue and used in the HPV type-specific
L1 qPCR assay. C indicates the presence of cancer, P indicates that cancer was previously
diagnosed and B indicates the tissue was histologically benign at the time biopsies
were performed. The type-specific HPV L1 for each sample was previously determined
by nested PCR using MY09/11 and GP5+/6+ primers pairs followed by direct sequencing
of the PCR products. Homology of the PCR product with HPV16 is indicated by 16 while
homology of the PCR product with HPV18 is indicated by 18. The inability to obtain
a product by nested PCR is indicated by a dash. HPV type as determined by qPCR.
